ARTSLAM! Attack of the Cult Classics! We did a cult classics theme last year and we had such a great response, we just had to bring it back! There is just too many movies to cover on this theme!
And as always, We have Local Artists painted all Cult Classic themed art all night! All up for silent auction! Come see their takes on some of your favorite films! Have you been looking for a great Pee-wee Herman piece for your living room wall? You just might find it and a great price!

For the 11th time since the inception of the Super Soul Shakedown in Jan of 2008, the party people came out in droves & were treated to one of the most unique funk & soul experiences available in the south.
DJs Donnie Dee, JJ Lopez & Scuba Gooding Sr. got things going early & the soul train began to scoot. Donnie Dee brought things to a fever pitch, just in time for Henry + the Invisibles to launch his one of a kind rocketship of funk into orbit.
2 lucky party people in attendance walked away with a 1 year subscription to Wax Poetics Magazine so an extra big Super Soul Shakedown shout out goes to Wax Poetics for their support!

Let me say that he 1st time that I ever saw these cats play, I was in Corpus Christi, TX for the 1st ever Artslam1 down there & they blew the packed crowd away…all eyes were on the stage once they started & I said right then & there that we have to book them for a Shakedown one day. Well, the time has come & he will be blowing up the spot, alongside KRTU soul DJs & floor rocker DJs, Donnie Dee, JJ Lopez & Scuba Gooding Sr.

BUT! It’s Fiesta in San Antonio & that means more parties & events than anyone can possibly attend. NIOSA, The Mercado, The Carnival, King William Fair, Battle of Flowers parade, etc…
We’d like to add to that list, our 1st Fiest@-timed Artslam! in the 5 year history of this unique live art & music event. We chose downtown’s latest & greatest club, The Korova (107 E. Martin St @ Soledad) for this joyous occasion.

For good measure, here are some Cerebral Vortex / Vertual Vertigo videos…this cat came on the scene in SA around 2004 & made 1 of the biggest impacts that this music community has ever witnessed. Since then he has worked with some of the biggest names in today’s progressive hiphop/electronic/indie scene, such as Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Kissy Asplundh, Suzi Analouge, etc. I have no less than 5 different 12″s from him from labels all over the world, which is more than most anyone from the SA music scene can claim. Dude is the truth & reps SA to the fullest! If you never had the chance to see him play or if you havent seen his show in a long time, dont miss out on his midnight performance with his Vertual Vertigo project!

What a way to kick off Fiesta in San Antonio! Looking back over the last 11 Super Soul Shakedown’s that have taken place quarterly for the last 2.5 years, it is so incredible to see the seeds that we planted continue to grow into an orchard of soul that promises to be a forest of funk before long. Last night marked our 10th Shakedown in SA & all 10 events have reached capacity before midnight…as did the 1 off Austin Shakedown that we held last fall. As LL & Easy Lee put it, it’s something like a phenomenon.
As our brand’s popularity has continued to grow, we had to make a decision to go to a larger venue that is more geared towards our diverse audience. We then peaked the interest of SA’s legendary live music hall, Sam’s Burger Joint. With our inaugural concert @ Sam’s, it quickly proved to be the perfect fit & will now be the new home field for the Super Soul Shakedown, after we host our last one @ the Limelight on 7/17/10 (which will feature Henry + The Invisibles.)
DJs Cortez, Donnie Dee, JJ Lopez & myself (Scuba) all brought the heat last night & subsequently set the dance floor aflame with 500 pair of feet movin & groovin for hours on end. Once the table was set, Sexto Sol did what they’ve always done best & gave the audience a healthy serving of San Anto soul stew that filled their Fiesta soul food appetites. Mmm mmmm good!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot…Mr. JJ Lopez & our intern/DJ homie Cortez, took it upon themselves to break out the old school tape deck & record all of our DJ sets & Sexto Sol’s performance on cassette last night. Stay tuned for those gems to be unearthed @ a later date.

Well well well…it is our pleasure to inform you of what will surely be 1 of the most talked about concerts to hit San Antonio this year.
Devin the Dude has been a long favorite of mine since I was in high school & 1st bought his group album, “Fadanufaerybody” by the Odd Squad, which was 1 of Devin’s 1st releases ever back in 1993 or so. He has been consistently putting out some of the best feel good rap music ever since that tape changed my life & he is set to release his new album, Suite 420, on April 20th this year.
To push the project, Devin the Dude is doing some choice shows around the US & them boys from MOJOE reached out & will be opening up the San Antonio show on Wed, 4/14/10 @ the Scout Bar in north SA. Get there early, as I assure you that this event will sell out, as a Devin show in SA is rare & a Devin show with Mojoe on the bill is set to be on fire! Additional support will be provided by the Super Soul Shakedown’s own DJ DONNIE DEE! on the host & DJ tip, plus the big homie Question & Fade Dogg.
Also, our family @ THE YARD will be holding a meet & greet / listening party for the new album, which will feature Devin live in person @ the Yard (525 San Pedro Ave, SA, TX 78212)…Come meet the Dude.
